Respite Suites provides safe, short-term medical recovery for adults who need a place to heal after hospital discharge.
A chance while we are not recovering from illness or injury has access to a safe, supportive space for healing regardless of housing or income.
We envision a Chapel where every adult recovering from illness or injury has access to a safe, supportive space for healing regardless of housing or income.
We are working to open one of the first dedicated medical respite programs in the South Side of Chicago, addressing a critical gap in care for vulnerable adults who are too ill to recover independently but not ill enough to remain hospitalized.
Too many individuals are discharged from hospitals without a safe place to recover. Some return to unsafe environments. Others are sent to shelters not equipped for medical recovery.
In many cases, patients remain in hospital beds longer than necessary, not because they need continued medical treatment, but because there is nowhere else for them to go. This is not just a medical issue. It is a matter of dignity.
Nineteen years ago, our founder and executive director lost her best friend, Blair Holt, to gun violence. That loss shaped her lifelong commitment to healing, justice, and community restoration.
Her work in violence recovery at a Level 1 trauma center on the South Side of Chicago exposed a recurring reality: patients were often medically stable, but had no safe place to recover.
A single question came to define this experience:
A Chicago nonprofit was built answering from ideas of years that access to a safe, supportive space for healing regardless of housing or income.
This resource is deeper truth.
Restorative housing was created to close that gap, and to ensure that healing does not end at discharge.
Respite Suites is working to establish one of the first dedicated medical respite programs on the South Side of Chicago, a region with significant need and no existing infrastructure for this level of care.
Our facility will provide a safe, structured environment for recovery, supporting individuals who are medically vulnerable and experiencing housing instability.
We aim to reduce reliance on emergency care while connecting guests to the resources they need for long-term stability.
Grounded in access, compassion, accountability, professionalism, and equity.
